Amazing Traditional Flan Bars: A 60-Minute Dream

  • Author: goforecipes.com
  • Total Time: 6 hours 20 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Classic flan bars with a rich caramel topping and creamy custard filling.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a saucepan, combine sugar and water. Cook over medium heat until sugar caramelizes to a deep amber color.
  3. Carefully pour caramelized sugar into a 9×13 inch baking pan, tilting to coat the bottom.
  4. In a blender, combine eggs, condensed milk, evaporated milk, vanilla extract, and salt. Blend until smooth.
  5. Pour the custard mixture over the caramel in the baking pan.
  6. Place the baking pan in a larger pan. Add hot water to the larger pan, coming halfway up the sides of the baking pan (water bath).
  7. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
  8. Remove from water bath and let cool completely.
  9. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  10. To serve, run a knife around the edges and invert onto a serving platter. Cut into bars.

Notes

  • Ensure the caramel does not burn, as it will become bitter.
  • The water bath helps the flan cook evenly and prevents cracking.
  • Chilling is essential for the flan to set properly.
