Description

This recipe makes delicious and healthy shrimp and vegetable dumplings, perfect for a light meal or appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled, deveined, and finely minced
  • 1 cup napa cabbage, finely shredded
  • 1/2 cup carrots, finely grated
  • 1/4 cup green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1 package (12 ounces) round dumpling wrappers
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for cooking)
  • 1/4 cup water (for cooking)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine minced shrimp, napa cabbage, carrots, green onions, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, and white pepper. Mix well to combine.
  2. Place about 1 teaspoon of the filling in the center of each dumpling wrapper.
  3. Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water. Fold the wrapper in half to form a semi-circle, pressing the edges to seal. You can create pleats along the sealed edge for a decorative finish.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium heat.
  5. Place dumplings in a single layer in the hot skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the bottoms are golden brown.
  6. Pour 1/4 cup of water into the skillet. Immediately cover the skillet with a lid and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the shrimp is cooked through and the water has evaporated.
  7. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the filling.
  • Dumplings can be frozen before cooking. Place them in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze until solid, then transfer to an airtight container. Cook from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the steaming time.
