Description
A classic Southern cornbread dressing, perfect for holidays and family gatherings.
Ingredients

- 1 pound cornbread, crumbled
- 1 cup chopped yellow onion
- 1 cup chopped celery
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
- 1/4 teaspoon sage
- 1/4 teaspoon thyme
- 3 cups chicken broth
- 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion and celery and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
- In a large bowl, combine crumbled cornbread, cooked onion and celery mixture, salt, pepper, poultry seasoning, sage, and thyme.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together chicken broth and beaten eggs.
- Pour the wet ingredients over the dry ingredients and mix gently until just combined.
- Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the dressing is heated through and lightly browned on top.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, you can add chopped pecans or crumbled cooked sausage to the dressing.
- If you prefer a softer dressing, add an extra 1/2 cup of chicken broth.
- Make sure your cornbread is completely cool before crumbling.
