Ingredients

  • 1 pound cornbread, crumbled
  • 1 cup chopped yellow onion
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon sage
  • 1/4 teaspoon thyme
  • 3 cups chicken broth
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion and celery and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. In a large bowl, combine crumbled cornbread, cooked onion and celery mixture, salt, pepper, poultry seasoning, sage, and thyme.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together chicken broth and beaten eggs.
  5. Pour the wet ingredients over the dry ingredients and mix gently until just combined.
  6. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  7. Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the dressing is heated through and lightly browned on top.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can add chopped pecans or crumbled cooked sausage to the dressing.
  • If you prefer a softer dressing, add an extra 1/2 cup of chicken broth.
  • Make sure your cornbread is completely cool before crumbling.
