Ingredients

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, cinnamon, and melted butter. Mix well.
  6. Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared baking pan.
  7. Drizzle half of the cinnamon sugar mixture over the batter.
  8. Pour the remaining batter over the cinnamon mixture.
  9. Drizzle the remaining cinnamon sugar mixture on top.
  10. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  11. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  12. Optional: Drizzle with a simple glaze made from powdered sugar and milk.

Notes

  • Buttermilk can be substituted with regular milk with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar added and left to sit for 5 minutes.
